Solitary Tear
The children of Africa often find their way into my heart and onto my paper. This little one came begging at our vehicle while we stopped to pick up some amazingly perfect and fresh greens. My friend squatted down and, with a solitary, mostly dry tear on her face, this street-wise wee one crawled up onto her lap and simply wanted a hug from a Muzungu. She ended up with a little treat before getting shuffled back out onto the alleyway. I shed many tears in Africa because of the poverty! During my 3 trips to that continent I learned how to share what I had, not directly giving much of anything to beggars, but to organizations I observed and learned how they used donations. Be compassionate, but also be money-wise!
